New Balance to pay for Charles River path plowing

Thanks to Brighton-based New Balance for funding snow removal on paths along the river. Ideally the State would have sufficient revenue to pay for these basic services, but considering the state's financial difficulties, certainly this is better than impassable paths. And the river is particularly beautiful with a coating of fresh snow.

Plowing paths along the river is a basic service?

  2. Well, I wouldn't call it a "luxury service". Allowing people to walk and bike along the river during the winter is something that I expect our government to provide, though maybe that's just because I am a big-goverment liberal.

  3. Thank you, Anonymous, for pinpointing a major problem with Boston and Massachusetts - not expecting enough from our government. Who can blame us all, really? We've been conditioned that way.

  4. John,

The problem goes beyond our state, and it is nicely described by Tom Friedmena in today's NYT

"a citizenry that doesn’t even ask for optimal anymore because it believes that optimal is impossible"

  5. This is great news - maybe they'll spring for fixing the mess of an intersection where Market St, Western Ave and the on/off ramps to Soldier's Field Road all meet.
I noticed that in the article on boston.com that cycling is not mentioned. Granted NB isn't a cycling oriented company, but at least on the Nonantum Road stretch of the river path I have trouble with packs of runners not wanting to share the road.
