Election results rolling in

The race for Mayor is still within a few percentage points, but it seems clear that Mark Ciommo is heading to a victory in his City Council race vs. Alex Selvig.

Congratulations to Mark and thank you to Alex for his willingness to challenge an incumbent - an uphill battle in any election but one that also strengthens our democracy and civic life.

  1. What is so frustrating? Is it because Ciommo won or that very few people from Allston and Brighton voted?

  2. Harry, what does this say you about the depth of blanket opposition to BC and Harvard in A-B? Selvig is known almost solely for his outspoken opposition to institutional expansion yet he lost in a landslide.

  3. Hi Rob,

I don't know what you mean by "blanket opposition" to Harvard and BC. Would you care to elaborate?

In any case, there are a lot of different reasons that go into people's voting decisions. In many parts of A/B, the Harvard and BC situations are probably not the residents' top concern.

    Thanks,
    Harry

  5. I mean people who are opposed to almost all actions taken by the schools related to expansion, even those that are relatively minor like the use of field turf at BC as one example. Selvig represents that line of activism. Someone like Ciommo takes a more measured approach of working with the schools when appropriate but opposing when equally appropriate.
