North Harvard Street parking lot

I happened to have a camera with me yesterday when walking down North Harvard St at 8:45 in the morning. The traffic was barely moving and jammed solid from Cambridge St to Western Ave. How much worse will it be when Harvard starts construction or eventually when 1000's of new people start commuting to jobs in North Allston? When we start talking about Harvard's 20-year plan there needs to be some serious planning to eliminate problems like this.

Yes, I see that every morning. Fortunately, as an Allston resident who works in Harvard Square I just ride my bike to work. It is much, much faster than driving. However, the high volume of traffic that currently exists makes the morning drivers frustrated and less cautious and I have been very nearly sideswiped on more than one occasion. I can't imagine what will happen if it gets worse.

  2. For seven years I had to cross the intersection of Franklin and N. Harvard Streets to get to mt old job at HBS. Every morning I felt like I was taking my life in my hands on foot or by bicycle - especially on my bike. I got cursed by motorists, been ignored at the cross-walks (even after they were re-painted), and force me off the road. That's just a partial list.
I now work in Waltham so I get to avoid that mess, but sadly it's too dangerous to ride my bike even to the bike path, and the service for the 70 but is pathetic at best so I drive to work.

North Harvard Street is in desperate need of bus/bike lanes, especially between Western Ave and Soldiers Field Road. This is one reason why the 66 is so slow. This could be an immediate fix. Simply remove the parking and stripe bus/bike lanes on the outside of the general travel lanes.
